How we Love in February
Happy February! The month of February is one of love and joy.
But why?
Valentine's Day isn't just about store-bought candy and pretty roses. It's about God's love.
"You know, Easter could be Valentine's Day because God died on the cross because He loved us."
-Hannah Carretto (Elise's 6-year-old sister)
Not only does Valentine's Day celebrate amazing friends, family, and treats, but it also celebrates God.
But how?
Think- what is love? Who are we called to be like? Who are we supposed to worship?
Answer: GOD.
If God is love, love is good, we are called to be good and to be like God, that means, we're supposed to love. Sounds pretty simple, right?
You know, nothing would exist if God didn't love us. We are sinful humans, and we don't deserve His love. But He loves us so much that He created us, and He made a home for us. We're made in His image, so we should strive to be more like Him. That means loving others like He loves us.
Philippians 2:3-4, "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."
Put others first. Yikes, when you think about it, that's pretty hard. As humans, we want to put ourselves first. But think, did Jesus ever put himself first? Did He ever shove other people out of His way to be first?
Nope.
God loves us so much that he sent his one and only son down here on Earth to die for us. Yes, to die. God is so loving! Remember, we don't deserve any of this.
So back to what we said, we are called to be like God. How? Put others first. It might be hard, but remember, we do hard things! So this Valentine's Day, show God's love to others through doing what he did at Easter- put others first.
Happy Valentine's Day!
